The Car

The R129 SL is now becoming a well appreciated modern classic and is starting to rise in value accordingly. This particular 280SL is an average example of the type though it is a fairly rare shade of red that is quite pleasant. The car comes with its own private registration that is also valuable in its own right. The car drives very well and provides a healthy balance between power and handling and is quite sprightly. The car is also helped by having the colour coded factory hard top which has helped to keep the folding soft top in very good condition.

– Private registration plate

– Appreciating modern classic

– Comes with original book pack

Paperwork

The car comes with the original book pack though sadly there is no service book though the history may be available through Mercedes. There are some old MOTs and also invoices detailing work carried out.

Body & Paintwork

The bodywork is in good condition with no rust and the car is solid throughout. The paintwork is good on a whole though there are some small scratches and other age related marks.

Interior Trim

The interior is where this car is let down as there is a hole in the driver’s seat bolster and the seats are fairly worn. The mushroom coloured leather is typical of Mercedes this age and shouldn’t be too hard to source if the new owner wished to.

Engine

The engine is good aspect of this vehicle and pulls well and revs freely. It provides the car with an easy sporting ability while remaining light enough to enable better handling.

Running Gear

The gearbox changes smoothly and easily with no problems. The brakes are strong and effective and as mentioned above the car handles well. This is a fun car to drive and one you don’t need to be overly precious with though also provides a good entry level to modern classic ownership.
