This 1602 is a lightly modified example of BMW’s iconic ‘02 series coupe, providing a more sporting character than a standard car, with plenty of charm and entertainment.
This particular car has recently benefitted from a full service, new 205/60/13 Dunlop Sport Classic tyres all round, a new fuel tank and new brake boosters, which represents significant expenditure to ensure that the car drives just as it should. The wheels and tyres fitted to the car are wider than would have been fitted new (165s), and fit with the aesthetic of the wider arches, along with providing improved grip and road holding.
Cosmetically the car presents well from a distance, but does have some minor bubbling in various areas around the car, such as the front corners of the bonnet, and above the N/S/R wheel arch. It is fair to say that this is a car that is best off being used and enjoyed, and possibly improved, rather than being kept as a garage queen. The interior of the car presents well, with non original front seats that hold the occupants better and a smaller steering wheel. The inner bolster of the front passenger seat has a small tear, but largely the interior is a pleasant place to be, and in good condition.
This 1602 is one of those rare sorts of cars that is intended purely for fun, and is well placed to entertain drivers of all abilities. It certainly isn’t over powered, and is all the better for it. As standard these are well balanced, and enjoyable cars to drive, and this example only builds on that capability.
The car does not have a large history file, but does feature some older invoices, along with parts invoices for the work carried out during our care. It will also be sold with a fresh MOT.
